-------------PLEASE NOTE SOME ASSISTANCE FOR KATRINA AID  IS NEARING THE CUT-OFF DATE ------------

I am adding this page as I found a site that I thought would be of help to people in Louisiana. I  now have assistance links for :Alabama, Louisiana ,Mississippi , Texas  , Florida  ( courtesy of our fellow Aidmate Elaine of TSA !)There are still organizations that assist Katrina(and Rita) victims .   There are still people who are HURTING and SUFFERING from the disaster. It seems that when a disaster strikes we all help for a while , then the incident fades in our lives . This is not true for the people whose life fell apart when the flooding started.

      Louisiana   Rebuilds

"was established to be a trusted, online destination for residents affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita by providing critical information for those who have returned home as well as those who are still displaced. This site helps Louisiana residents wherever they are get up-to-date information about what is happening in our city(s); understand what resources are available to help stabilize their lives; access critical recovery and rebuilding assistance and support; and have a voice in our community’s developing future."

Programs for the  musicians of New Orleans

      "NOAH's mission:

      • to find employment for musicians from the stricken area
      • to assist them and their families in relocation

We are musicians helping musicians.  Most musicians in the stricken area left their homes in the wake of Hurricane Katrina with little or nothing.  Finding work as a musician is never easy, but in a new community it can take months or years to become established enough to earn a living.  We are about finding immediate work for these musicians (who are now in the Houston area) and helping them become a part of our community.

Our incentive is humanitarian and fraternal.  We are musicians and these are our brothers and sisters in music.  But there is also a great sense of historical perspective here.  While New Orleans is the home to a great variety of music and styles, it is the birthplace of the great American art form, Jazz, and these musicians, more than any other have honored this heritage and continued the traditions of the founders.  As much to the music itself, we owe it to them and to our musical forefathers to continue this legacy and keep it alive for generations to come."

      MORE RELIEF ORGANIZATIONS FOR MUSICIANS

For  displaced musicians who need assistance and support. The artists of New Orleans are a treasure in our Nation that need to be supported and cherished. The richness of the music , the wonderful personalities of the musicians and the historic value of Dixieland Jazz need to be remembered . My father , although not from New Orleans , played their style of jazz and had records that played Dixieland Jazz. This is what Jazz is to me.If you haven't heard this form of jazz , check a record out of the library . You won't regret it !-sl
